What Is a Vacuum Freeze Dryer?
A Vacuum Freeze Dryer is an advanced low-temperature dehydration system that removes moisture from products through sublimation, converting ice directly into vapor under high vacuum conditions. This process preserves the original structure, color, taste, nutritional value, and biochemical integrity of heat-sensitive materials.
Ecotech Solutions’ freeze dryers are ideal for applications where quality preservation and shelf-life extension are critical.
How the Ecotech Freeze Dryer Works
1. Freezing Stage
The product is frozen at ultra-low temperatures (typically –30°F to –50°F) inside the drying chamber. This ensures all moisture is converted into solid ice, preparing it for efficient sublimation.
2. Primary Drying (Sublimation)
A high-performance vacuum system reduces chamber pressure (typically 50–300 mTorr). Controlled shelf heating supplies the energy required for ice to sublimate directly into vapor.
A deep-cooled condenser (around –56°C) captures the vapor as ice, protecting the vacuum pump and ensuring efficient moisture removal.
3. Secondary Drying (Adsorption)
In the final phase, bound moisture is removed by gradually raising the temperature to 10–15°C under continuous vacuum. This reduces residual moisture to below 3%, ensuring long-term stability.
